24m Headframe Installation

Summary

MCA Engineering delivered a shaft refurbishment project for a mine in Regional NSW, installing a 24m headframe, two 1200 Mine Class winders (SIL 2 control), a working stage and cage for men and materials. The upgrade equipped the client’s number one shaft to a depth of 1,200m, increasing hoisting capacity across the site.

The Challenge

The client needed to equip their number one shaft to a depth of 1,000m to increase site capacity, requiring new hoisting infrastructure capable of safely servicing both men and materials to significant depth. The solution needed to support new and existing shaft access for ground support or maintenance, without compromising safety or operational continuity.

Our Approach

MCA Engineering designed and installed a 24m headframe, two SIL 2-controlled 1200 Mine Class winders, a working stage and a materials and personnel cage. The cage was engineered to deliver 4m x 9m DN150 pipe packs to the stage via an integrated hydraulic crane, with the system designed to install a new loading station and lower components weighing up to 48 tonnes.

The Solution

MCA delivered a fully equipped shaft hoisting system capable of servicing depths to 1,200m, exceeding the client’s original 1,000m requirement. The installed system enables an anticipated 108m of pipeline installation per shift and supports new loading station construction from surface, significantly speeding up underground construction and increasing the site’s operational capacity.
