Vent Fan/Raise Bore Civil Foundations

Summary

MCA Engineering was engaged by CMOC to construct the raise bore civil foundations for two ventilation shafts as part of an expansion at Northparkes Mine, NSW. The scope included deep micro pile foundations, an access road, sumps and perimeter fencing, supporting critical ventilation infrastructure required for the mine’s continued underground development.

The Challenge

CMOC’s mine expansion required stable, engineered foundations for two new raise bore ventilation shafts, along with supporting site infrastructure. The foundation design needed to account for ground conditions at depth, while also delivering access, drainage and security infrastructure to support ongoing construction and operation of the ventilation shafts.

Our Approach

MCA designed and constructed a series of 25m deep micro piles around the perimeter of one of the raises, engineering a foundation solution suited to the site’s ground conditions. The team also built the supporting access road, sumps and perimeter fencing, delivering the complete civil scope required to support the raise bore ventilation shafts.

The Solution

MCA delivered stable, engineered civil foundations for both raise bore ventilation shafts, supported by access, drainage and security infrastructure. CMOC received foundation infrastructure built to withstand the demands of deep raise boring, supporting the successful progression of Northparkes Mine’s ventilation expansion works.
